Learn how to carve a watermelon into a whale! Not only will it make a fun addition to children's party but it is also a creative way of serving fruit salad.

Materials

1 seedless watermelon - large in size and oblong in shape
Paring or kitchen knives
Green dry erase marker or a sharp pencil

Instructions

  1.     Take a long and decently sized watermelon.
  2.    Slice off about 1/4" piece from one of the sides to create a steady base.
  3.     Use the image above as a guideline and draw the whale design onto the watermelon.
  4.     Take a large knife to cut around the tail and head and a smaller one of a decorating tail to cut out the decorative edges.
  5.     You will probably find it easier to remove the rind from the top in smaller pieces rather than one large piece.
  6.  The eyes and mouth should be carved into the rind, removing only the outer dark green rind, revealing the lighter color underneath.
  7.     Cut out a small "blow hole" from the top of the head section and insert dried flowers.
  8.     Remove the flesh from inside the whale and fill with seasonal fruit salad of preference.
