Learn how to carve this brilliant watermelon snowman fruit platter. It's easier to make than it looks and is sure to impress friends as the ideal holiday party themed food.
Materials
1 watermelon - seedless and round
2 small sized watermelons
Melon baller
Mini melon baller
Paring and kitchen knives
Large wooden skewers
Instructions
- Take all three watermelons and cut 1/4" from one side of each of them so they all have a steady base. The large watermelon is going to be used as the body and the two small ones as the torso and head. Be sure to use the smallest one for the head.
- Cut the tops off of the body and torso watermelons and hollow them out to be used as bowls for the fruit salad.
- Now take the smallest watermelon, which is the head and using a melon baller scoop out the eyes. Invert the balls and then reinsert them so that red flesh is now on the outside.
- Next create the nose and mouth using the mini melon baller. Take some melon flesh that you removed from one of the other watermelons and cut a triangular piece to be used as the nose. Fill the holes created for the mouth with blackberries or blueberries.
- Use wooden skewers to secure the 3 watermelons together and place them on one large platter.
- Y-shaped twigs work perfectly for the arms.
- Fill the body and torso with fruit salad and finally add the finishing touches of a scarf and hat.
