This cute little watermelon pig will make a great addition to a children's birthday party. Easy to make and filled with delicious fresh fruit, it will be a hit with both the adults and the children.

Materials

1 watermelon - seedless and round
1 pink pipe cleaner
1 Piece of pink foam craft sheet
3 Buttons - one large pink and two blue or alternatively use blueberries
Melon scoop
Toothpicks or skewers

Instructions

  1.     Take your washed and dry watermelon and cut 1/4" from one side to create a base.
  2.     Cut the top off about 1/3 of the way down and stop about 3 inches before reaching the front end. Then cut vertically to reach the horizontal line. See the image above for guidance.  Save the removed piece for later.
  3.     Hollow out the watermelon using the melon scoop to create melon balls, which will be served later in the salad.
  4.     Create the tail from a twisted pipe cleaner and ears from the craft foam. Cut a circle from a piece of rind for the snout and mount a pink button on top.  All of which can be attached to the watermelon using toothpicks or wooden skewers.
  5.     With the rind that we removed from the top, cut out four rectangular pieces to use as hooves. Cut little triangular notches into each one for detail. Once again attach to the main body with toothpicks.
  6.     Fill your pig with the melon balls from earlier and try mixing in other fruit of preference.
