Materials
1 Round Watermelon
1 melon scoop
Dry erase marker pen
Knife
Toothpicks
Instructions
- Create a sturdy base by cutting a thin slice from one end of the watermelon.
- Cut out a circle from the top of the watermelon ensuring that it is big enough to insert your hand into for hollowing out the carving. Keep the section of rind that you remove so that it can be put back.
- Use you melon scoop to hollow out the fruit, saving the flesh to eat later or to make a fruit salad.
- Make sure that there is no liquid left inside the carving.
- Using a pen draw on the features of the face including eyes, nose and mouth and anything else you want to include. Be as creative as you like. Carefully follow the lines you have drawn with a knife.
- If you have one, a battery operated lamp placed inside will provide your Jack-O-Melon with a spooky glow.
- Finally place the piece you removed in step 2 back on the top of the watermelon.
