Impress and frighten friends and family by carving your very own watermelon Bat Jack-O-Melon. Follow these simple instructions to create this decoration, which is perfect for halloween parties.
Materials
2 watermelons- round and preferably one yellow one for the main body
Kitchen & paring knives
Chopping board
Green erasable marker pen
Candy corns
4-6" wooden skewers
Toothpicks
Candle or battery lamp
Instructions
- Thoroughly wash and dry both watermelons.
- Take the roundest watermelon and cut off 1/4 inch from one end to create a sturdy base.
- Use your marker pen to draw the features of the face such as the eyes and mouth. Also draw the outline of the ears and top of the head that will be cut away.
- Take a sharp kitchen knife and carefully cut around the lines you have draw. Remove the rind from the top of the watermelon and then hollow out all of the flesh from inside.
- Now take the second watermelon and draw the shape of two wings.
- Cut out the two wings and save the inner red flesh to use to make fruit salad or eat as a snack.
- Using wooden spears attach the wings to either side of the face. Use candy corns secured with toothpicks for fangs.
- Finally rest a candle or battery powered light in the middle of the carving.
